Wednesfield and Fallings Park LNP Supports Domestic Violence Campaign

Wednesfield and Fallings Park LNP has recently supported the City Council's domestic violence campaign during the World Cup.

The unfortunate facts are that historically, incidents of domestic violence increase on England match days.  During the 2006 World Cup, incidents of domestic violence rose by as much as 31 per cent when England were playing.

In an aim to try to reduce that figure this time around, the council has teamed up with Wolverhampton Primary Care Trust for the Keep it Safe campaign and this has been supported by the LNP.

As part of the campaign, the council is using Bluetooth transmitters in four city centre pubs which send messages to mobile phones advising people to report domestic violence and giving local and national helpline numbers.

Wardens have also distributed information to venues frequented by women in the Wednesfield area.

Initial reports show that in the first two weeks of the 2010 World Cup, domestic violence in the City has actually decreased by 32%.

The LNP will continue to support projects such as this in the future.
