Environmental Partnership

Wolverhampton is affected by many environmental issues.  Among them are pollution, fly-tipping, traffic congestion and the quality of our parks and open spaces.

A number of organisations work in partnership on these problems. This Environmental Partnership includes the Environment Agency, Natural England, Centro, the Groundwork Trust and Wolverhampton City Council.

Much has already been done to make our city a cleaner, safer and greener place to live. In fact, Wolverhampton was the highest-rated West Midlands council for the quality of the local environment in a recent Government survey.

To make sure this good work continues Wolverhampton has developed its own Environment Strategy. This has five main aims:

  • improving nature conservation in the city
  • developing and maintaining green open spaces
  • developing sustainable ways of making and using things
  • reducing the city’s output of greenhouse gases and adapting to climate change
  • developing a sustainable transport system (including public transport, cycling, walking and car-sharing).

The Environmental Partnership plays an important part in making sure that the strategy’s aims are met.

Local needs and priorities aren’t neglected, either. The Partnership works closely with the city’s Local Neighbourhood Partnerships to make sure that these are always considered, even in the way that goods and services are bought.

The Environmental Partnership helps Wolverhampton’s public, private and voluntary sector organisations work in a more sustainable way. Together, we can make Wolverhampton a better place to live today – and improve the health and well-being of future generations.
