Local Area Agreements

What is a Local Area Agreement (LAA)?

An agreement between central government and local partners to help provide better services.

Under the LAA, providers of local public services have an opportunity to negotiate and simplify their relationship with government.  The aim is to allow greater freedom from government to determine priorities locally and reduce bureaucracy.

What are they?

Three year agreements between central government, local government and strategic partners which enable better delivery of local priorities.

Under the Local Area Agreements clear targets will be set to reflect the needs and wishes of Wolverhampton residents.

How do they benefit people in Wolverhampton?

The LAA does not bring additional resources or 'new money' - its about using existing funding in better ways, responding to local need.

By combining different types of funding, resources can be directed to areas most in need.

So by using more effectively, working in partnership with different agencies/ organisations in Wolverhampton and having specific targets to meet (in the LAA), organisations can deliver better services for people in Wolverhampton.

The LAA was refreshed in March 2007.  You can download a PDF copy of the Wolverhampton Local Area Agreement here.
